Writing for TheBizClass

I am pleased to write for TheBizClass.com.  In the days and months to come, I will do my best to bring up issues that are of interest to business students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

I completed my undergraduate work at the University of Illinois, and I earned an MBA at the California State Polytechnic University at Pomona.  Additionally, I have completed advanced graduate-level courses at the University of Southern California. In 1985 I completed 20 years as a Marine Corps officer, where I was involved in programs involving information technology, budgeting, financial management, and planning.  From then until 1997 I was the CEO oGary%20100x100.jpgf Pentagon Express, a major transportation company in northern Virginia.

Concomitant with my careers in government and the private sector, I taught business administration courses as an adjunct faculty member at the Northern Virginia Community College, the Los Angeles City College and at Strayer University in Arlington, Virginia.  On a number of occasions I was a guest lecturer on business administration at the U. S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland.

I am hopeful that readers will take the time to provide comments and suggestions to articles I will be posting.  I promise to respond to all of them promptly.

Your name sounds familiar--what year did you graduate from Cal Poly? What did you think of their MBA program?

gary question; what is your opinion of the online programs of major state universities like the master of science in management at minot etc; So far I have two degrees completing a third from top of the line universities ( eg BFA and MA from NYU; school of the arts and graduate school of arts and sciences ( drama and performance studies ), and now
MA in general psychology at city college of the city university of new york ); although i am planning both serious clinical masters and doctoral work at the city university of new york; my question is for ancillary areas of knowledge to help me in my research and professional work; i thought of doing some additional online graduate work in fields that are ancillary to my own such as business or criminal justice or management or strategic intelligence; BUT; if this is going to mess up my main educational credentials then i dont want it obviously; do you feel that online programs from major state schools like the masters degree in management science from minot have a similar stigma to places like capella etc?

Many legitimate colleges and universities offer online courses, most commonly in the fields of engineering, computer science, etc. Some professional organizations also offer online courses so that members can recertify their credentials or otherwise remain current. These are fine. But I think that, in general, online BA/BS, MA/MS/MBA and PhD degrees are not worth much. Many major employers agree with my view.
