We all know that we should avoid colleges and universities that lack regional and professional accreditation. There are only six legitimate regional accrediting associations, and you can find them easily enough on the Internet.
Professional associations are also easy to locate. In business programs, the only one that counts is the Association to Advance Collegiate Sc
hools of Business (AACSB).
So how do diploma mills and other fake colleges handle the accreditation issue? Simple. In most cases, they invent an "accreditating body" that exists only in cyberspace. These accrediting bodies may have impressive names, but they are just as fake as the bogus colleges.
I've done lots of research on this issue, and I have come across four "accrediting bodies" that in my opinion are as fake as a three-dollar bill. They are:
- World Online Degrees Education Accrediting Commission (WOEAC)
- Board of Online Universities Accreditation (BOUA)
- Universal Council for Online Education Accreditation (UCOEA)
- International Accrediting Agency for Online Universities (IAAOU)
I'll go a step further and say that in my opinion these and other accrediting bodies were created by the same disreputable people, often using standard web page layouts, all requiring that you "log in" for information, and never telling you where they are actually located.
Don't be taken in. These places exist for suckers only.
