There are dozens of colleges and universities offering business education programs in the Commonwealth of Virginia, but only eight have achieved the rating of "fully accredited."![]()
That is not to say that second-tier schools are not worthwhile or that in many ways their business programs are not equal to those offered by the Big Eight. It is just that they have not yet met the high standards of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) in the fields of both accounting and business administration. They are:
- College of William and Mary (Williamsburg)
- George Mason University (Fairfax)
- James Madison University (Harrisonburg)
- Old Dominium University (Norfolk)
- University of Richmond (Richmond)
- University of Virginia-McIntire (Charlottesville)
- Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond)
- Virginia Polytechnic University (Blacksburg)
If you wish to attend one of these elite schools to earn a BSBA or an MBA, you should be prepared to present a high GPA and respectable scores on the SAT (undergraduate) or on the GMAT (graduate).
